Just a little about chicken wings (or Buffalo wings, whichever you prefer).

A lot of people assume that hot wings are the most popular flavor, but mild and sweet are actually the most commonly requested flavors.

Chicken wings are traditionally served with celery (or carrots) and blue cheese, however ranch dressing is a very popular choice.

Chicken Wing Factoids

Chicken Wing Bowl:

Every year, the Wing Bowl is held in Philadelphia. Recently, it was hosted at the Wells Fargo Arena, which holds 20,000 people.

The chefs begin cooking their buffalo wings around 1 am. People begin tailgating outside the arena around 4am and the competition begins at 6am. Around 10,000 chicken wings and drums are prepared for the event.

The contestants arrive aboard floats amid music and the obligatory pomp & circumstance, including flamboyantly dressed “wingettes.”

In 2018, Molly Schuyler, one of the smaller competitors, ate 501 wings in 30 minutes to not only win the competition, but also to break the previosu record of 444 set in 2015.

That was her third Wing Bowl win.

That’s a lot of wings…

According to the National Chicken Council, Americans ate more than 1.3 billion chicken wings on Superbowl Sunday, 2019.

That is enough wings to circle the earth 3 times.

In football terms, that is enough to put 640 wings on every seat in all 31 NFL stadiums.

Technically speaking…

There are actually three parts to a chicken wings. Yup, that’s right. The tip of the wing is appropriately called the wing tip, or the flapper. The middle part of the wing is called the wingette (or the flap) and the part of the wing with the most meat is called the drumette because to some people it looks like a small chicken leg.
